A USC Loses Their Star Player Juju Watkins’s Knee Injury

Juju Watkins

Juju Watkins, a USC star, got up early on Mississippi State on route to a major victory.  This is the hated non-contact right knee buckles.  And I say non-contact; obviously, there is contact there, but it seems that right knee was already causing major discomfort, aided off the floor.  by teachers  USC loses their star player for this game, maybe more importantly yet wins.

Holly’s  Roy Jones  Holly Road joins us from Los Angeles. Holly we see it and it has that terrible look of a major injury but we don’t know and you’re there what else can you share with us right now?  There were other staff members here that kind of stepped out of the grandstand, team physicians, medical professionals, who sprang into swift action with Juju Watkins.

They do not have an MRI equipment here, hence further imaging on that knee would be accomplished elsewhere.  Though doctors cannot do the MRI here, they can undertake static ligament testing to check for possible damage.  They therefore did wheel her out.  We watched her leave the building in a wheelchair, wheeled out.

Her future assessment will be done at a Keck Medical Center.  I can assure you the building was simply utterly aghast.  You know, a lot of quite nasty emotions abound here.  Actually, some tempers truly flared in the handshake line only seconds ago.  The damage and the supporters getting involved infuriated everyone, especially those who were boisterering and hollering.  She is sure she will conquer this.

In one way or another.  We simply don’t know how bad the damage is; Scott, I won’t guess, but I will tell you I have seen a lot of knee injuries over my career.  The way the replay angles looks is not nice.  If this isn’t a major knee damage, it would be surprising; still, we won’t guess and hope that the magnetic resonance imaging at Keck Medical Center is progressing well right now.  And I remarked non-contact.

I certainly misspoke there as I’m staring at the knee.  And some contact exists there as well.  And you mentioned the flaring of the tempers.  You know that the building and the people are emotional as this is a real superstar who exudes just grace in every conceivable manner.  Were emotions such that shove was something causing that fall?

Indeed, the structure grew really unsightly.  Every time the guy touched the ball going forward, they would get boos.  And in the line of handshakes just now, some words were spoken and people truly had to split the two sides apart.  So just, you know, this is a terrible sensation here.  She is liked in this town; these people love Juju and her colleagues naturally have her back.

So just a bad circumstance all around, and I am sure  You know, no one is never going to purposefully hurt someone, but just that’s how basketball goes; it was some contact on that play and people felt some sort of way about it.  Understandable.  Holly, value the perspective and the time.  Be fine.  Travel wisely.  Thank you.  I appreciate you.

Star Player Juju Watkins's Knee Injury
USC Basketball

For 87% of USC’s minutes this season Juju has been on the floor.  As you would expect, clear drop-offs when she is off the bench floor.  USC outscored its opponent by over 32 points per 100 possessions when Watkins was on the floor, fourth in Division I.  Their ranking in that category falls outside the top 30 without her.

That is a really serious injury.  Today was a day with amazing games.  Alabama leads ahead.  Maryland loses the ball here, but big time shot artist Sarah Tibiasu ties it at 83.  On the other side, Carly Weathers represents a chance to win it.  And it is off the rear iron.  Coach Freeze set five more on the clock and fired.  Md up by two in overtime.

Cheyenne Sellers, bucket, off-glass free throw good, five terps up.  Three tied down, five seconds to go.  Barker looks at it, shot blocked, the contact after the ball is blocked is a foul.  Barker steps to the free throw line.  You have to finish three or your season.  First two are excellent; this one is also pure.  The definition of clutch is that.

Time should show five more minutes.  Two terms ahead terps ahead.  For two, number one is  Tibiusu there. Say it right, Alvin; put the correct logo up.  I want we did.  Final game of Paige Becker at Gampel.  Five years of delight have been disrupted by injury.  She stayed around, though, and she has been everything we could have imagined her coming out of high school could be.

Thirty in a second-time NCAA tournament game for her career.  Also accomplished this last year in the second round against Syracuse.  Beckers joining Maya Moore as the only player in the legendary history of the program with several thirty-point games in the NCAA tournament.  In what setting do you frame it?  Indeed, Juju’s situation is terrible.

Of course, unlike you just discussed with Holly Rowe, we do not know the outcome.  We are surely hoping for the best and forwarding all of our well wishes west to Juju. She takes defenses apart and is absolutely frigid.  Watching Juju so is two-fold: she goes down and then sees her in great anguish.

TJuju Watkins Health Update

Star Player Juju Watkins

That’s why it’s quite moving.  She is a really brilliant actress.  And you know, that part devastating.  And then her team’s coordinated effort was also remarkable.  Juju is a guy that has made a lot of big-time plays, thirty-point performances, eight blocks on the defensive end, offensive end.

She has produced so many plays for that team so they may succeed and to see her colleagues then go out and create plays  For Juju, it was an encouraging endeavor from USC following a somewhat catastrophic injury.   How would you lose your top player and carry on past the evening?

When you can inspire the troops, you understand what I mean.  Yes, absolutely.  You know, at halftime Lindsey Gottlieb made a quite insightful comment to Holly Roe.  You know, she added, you don’t change into someone else when something terrible strikes.  Their cannot form a fresh group.  You are always the same.  You are who you have been.

And this USC club hangs their hat on other things like their defense even though Juju is an incredible standout.  Both individually and as a team, they have given outstanding defense.  In round one they set NCAA tournament marks.  They kept their opponent at 13%.  Just seven field goals were made.

The defense and their approach of playing on that end?  They do have a poised leader in Kiki Iriafen.  She is a pro.  She consistently exudes optimism.  Her influence will have to be great and very evident tonight with a 36-point performance.  Her leadership will have to get more robust.

Furthermore, I believe the way they can unite for Juju will be quite inspirational for this team.  Thus, if Juju is unable to return, there are plenty of items remaining under use for this USC club that would enable their further progress.  From a more broad standpoint, SVP also mentioned Paige Becker’s last game for UConn at home.

Paige Becker was applauded after putting up a career-high in her last game at UConn.  She is someone who has suffered terrible injuries.  And hence, I believe that everyone who is depressed about Juju should look at Paige’s narrative and also believe that brilliance cannot be stopped.  Simply cannot is what you cannot.
