Breaking News: President Trump Has Now Directed Airstrikes In Yemen Against The Houthi Rebels

Yemen

As we watch live from the White House in Washington, D.C., I do want to tell you about some breaking news.  President Trump said that he has now directed airstrikes in Yemen against the Houthi rebels.  This needs to show up on your screen.  This is a part of a post that President Trump just made on his Truth Social.  It’s right there on your screen.  He says, “I have told the US military to hit the Houthi terrorists in Yemen with decisive and strong military action.”

The Houthis struck the last American warship that went through the Red Sea four months ago more than a dozen times.  The Houthi thugs have fired missiles at U.S. planes and at our troops and friends. They are backed by Iran.  Since these attacks keep happening, they cost the world and U.S. economies a lot of money and put innocent lives in danger.

The attack by the Houthis on American ships will not be accepted.  We are going to use massive, lethal force until we reach our goal.  The Houthis have blocked shipping in one of the world’s most important waterways, stopping large parts of global trade and commerce. They are also fighting the basic right to free navigation, which is essential to international trade and commerce.

At this very moment, our brave soldiers are attacking terrorist camps, leaders, and missile defenses from the air to protect American ships, planes, and ships and to restore freedom of navigation.  There is no terrorist group that can stop American commercial and military ships from sailing freely on the world’s waterways.

I’d like to show you this live picture of the White House in Washington, D.C.  While we read the message from President Trump to all Houthi terrorists, we say, “Your time is up, and your attacks must stop today.” Be careful, because America will hold you fully responsible, and we won’t be nice about it.  Let me say that again: we just learned from President Trump that he has ordered bombings against the Houthi rebels in Yemen.  We’ll let you know here as soon as we get more details.

Reason for Attacking Houthi Rebels In Yemen

Houthi rebels

Lucas Tomlinson is at the White House to give us the latest on those strikes.  Louis.  John, these are the most important bombings since President Trump took office. They are also the first time that U.S. jets have attacked these Houthi rebels in Yemen who are backed by Iran since Trump took office.

People in the United States say that the strikes were led by F-18 Super Hornets from the flight deck of the USS Harry S. Truman, along with Air Force fighter jets and drones.  The strikes were just announced by President Trump on his True Social account. He said, “Joe, today I have ordered the United States military to launch decisive and powerful military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen.”

They have never stopped piracy, bloodshed, and terrorism against American and other ships, planes, and drones.  Joe Biden’s answer was embarrassingly weak.  The Houthis were not stopped, so they kept going remember that one of President Trump’s first executive orders was to make the Houthis a foreign terrorist organization again, after the Biden government had taken them down.

It became public earlier this month when the State Department said that Houthi leaders were ready to be killed.  Among the things that were hit today were air defense systems, factories that make missiles and drones, and one of the Houthis’ top missile leaders.  Iran backs the Houthis.  A lot of people think of them as modern-day Barbary pirates.  Since the killings on October 7, they have attacked business ships more than 100 times.

The Houthis also attacked U.S. forces.  The Houthis have fired anti-ship ballistic missiles and crewed drones at American forces dozens of times in the past few years.  None of them worked, and they were all shot down.  And just a few days ago, the leader of the Houthis said that attacks on ships in the Red Sea, including Israeli ships, would start up again.

Last month, the Houthis fired surface-to-air missiles at an American Reaper drone and an Air Force F-16 that was flying above.  John, U.S. troops have been involved in more than just Yemen.  Mr. Trump said last night that an American drone strike had killed ISIS’s second-in-command. I’m going to read a little more too.

What Will Happen Next?

From the long speech President Trump gave on Truth Social. John, President Trump said he won’t be nice about it.  You served in the Navy, Lucas.  I know that the Navy said it was doing more seaborne actions during the Biden administration than at any other time since, I think, World War II.  Is that correct?  And is this kind of meant to stop the Houthis from doing things like that?

An attack with ballistic missiles hit U.S. boats more than once in the Red Sea, off the coast of Yemen, and in the Gulf of Aden.  To give you some background, that has never happened in the history of the world.  In the history of the United States, ballistic missiles have never been fired at boats.

From the guided missile ships and cruisers in the strike group cost millions of dollars. Thank goodness they were all shot down.  That was always a worry in the Pentagon, though.  What will happen if those rockets get through?  It was interesting that President Biden said that U.S. troops were not in combat in his farewell speech.

You could read in the Navy’s press release about the return of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower strike group from the Red Sea that hundreds of bombs were dropped on the Houthis and that dozens of Super Hornets fired surface-to-air missiles at the crew drones flying above.  There was also the matter of money.

They were able to shoot down what the Houthis called “flying lawnmowers” or “very basic drones,” which cost only about $50,000 each.  And these shipping lanes, important shipping routes needed for trade, especially oil trade, have been pretty much shut down since the October 7th massacre. This means that commercial ships have to make the long trip around Africa, which adds to the cost.

Those aren’t bunker busters.  That means you’d likely have to call in something bigger if you needed those.  B-52 planes or maybe B-2 bombers.  We saw those B-2s take off from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri one time while Biden was president.  But there’s no doubt that this is a strong message.  The guided missile ships in the Truman strike group also have Tomahawk cruise missiles on board.  We didn’t hear of any Tomahawk attacks today, but there is more firepower nearby in case it’s needed.

Not only is a strong word being sent to the Houthis, but also, as you say, to Iran.  John, there’s no doubt.  President Trump just sent a letter to the Ayatollah saying that Iran needs to stop its nuclear enrichment program. Many people in the intelligence community see this as a way for Iran to get to a nuclear bomb.  The Israelis have been eager to attack Iran for a while now, and the Trump administration has said it supports such an operation.
