Met Gala 2025 Red Carpet Celebrity Looks

Met Gala 2025

Tonight’s theme is Superfine Tailoring Black Style. It is a celebration of the powerful and profound impact that black designers and style icons have had throughout history. The dress code tonight is tailored for you, and this blue carpet here on the Met Steps has a little something for everybody. We are bringing you all of the best looks as they come in.

Our special coverage starts right now. How are you embracing tonight’s theme? I mean, by fully living in it, sitting in it, wearing it. I’m here with Ruthie Carter. I’m so excited about that. It took us six months to do this, and I’m really, really proud of it. Tonight is a very important night. La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.

Each one is very different. This one has been particularly moving and important, I think, particularly at this moment in our political history. The museum is putting such a spotlight on the importance of black style and all these brilliant designers that are looked at in the exhibition. So to me, it’s about joy and confidence and creativity and talent.

And I hope that the people that come and see, the visitors that come and see this exhibition, really appreciate it as much as I do. It’s been a really emotional and moving. Wait, and you and where are you? This is Pharrell, and it’s a tribute to Virgil. He made a… Cloud Coat at Vuitton when he was creative director, so Pharrell very kindly reinterpreted it. You get more amazing every year.

Did you invite the boy who’s on the cover of the magazine? Right there. Is that? The catalog. The catalog. From the catalog. Yes. Oh, you are incredible. Thank you. Thank you. Oh, my God. Come on. Can’t see or whatever. Monica, what does it feel like to see your book come to life tonight? It feels amazing. It feels amazing.

I’m really excited and I just can’t wait for everyone to see the exhibition and to be inspired by it. What was it like bringing your book into life here with this exhibition? It was a dream and it was an amazing collaboration and one that really allowed me to open up my imagination and all of the research and skills that I have. So I was really excited. And what does dandyism mean to you in your look tonight? Oh, okay, so I’m wearing Grace Wells Bonner, and I’m wearing the bottom half tailored for me.

And this capelet is from a collection that she did in 2016.  Have so much fun. I’m in my wedding tux from 30 years ago. Karen made me the necktie and the pocket square. Show them the back. Yeah. Oh, cool. So she’s inspired by this black dressmaker from 100 years ago. Yeah, from the 1920s. Well, congratulations on your wedding tux from 30 years ago. All right. Yeah.

You look stunning. I saw you a couple of weeks ago. You are so talented. Thank you so much. Tell me what it’s like to be here for your first Met Gala. I just can’t believe it. I’m overwhelmed in the best way. Do you know what I mean? I just woke up this morning and I was like, this is wild. It’s beautiful.

So I’m very, very excited to go in, see the exhibition and see what everyone’s wearing. Very excited. Are you excited to find out what happens inside? Yeah. It’s like seeing behind the curtain, isn’t it? I don’t know. I feel like it’s like whatever you think and then ten times. Carson! Is it? Do you want this bag? Do you want me to stuff it in here? Domingo? Oh, I don’t know. No. Such an extraordinary night. It feels like part of my… I don’t even know if it’s a dream that I’ve ever had.

It sounds like I’m sitting in a space where not only we’re being celebrated as sort of black dandies, but I feel like, oh, it’s almost like your own secret’s being celebrated. Like, I love to dress. I love to put myself together this way and tell the world who I am. And now it seems like there’s an event that says, we celebrate you for that spirit of revolution. Coleman, congratulations. Tell me, how does it feel to be a co-chair of Fashion’s Biggest Night? It feels extraordinary to be a co-chair.

I’m joined by these men who I truly admire in Anna Wintour. And I feel like it’s a gorgeous night. Look at everyone’s dressing up and finding their way into their own tailoring. I just want to say, you did it. You did it. And I’ve been watching your career for many years. I would say decades, actually. I’m going to say congratulations. And I would love to know what this night is like through your eyes. You always, always look amazing.

It’s magical. It’s a real magical night. And I feel very blessed. I feel a little emotional as well. What do you mean? Oh, thank you. I feel outstanding. And I feel like the community of people, my friends and peers feel outstanding. And what a great time to celebrate this theme in particular, especially right now. And you look good doing it, baby.

Stewie! Stewie! Stewie come here! Hello, you look phenomenal. I was at the winning game early this year. What a year you’ve had. Yeah, it’s been an amazing year. How does it feel to now be here at the Met Gala? It feels great. It feels great to be invited. It feels great to be in the presence of other great people. But yeah, just enjoying the moment, enjoying everything that led up to it. And tell me about this look tonight.

How are you embracing the theme? Oh, man, obviously, you know, Dannyism is just about, you know, black culture. It’s about expression. It’s about kind of, you know, breaking out of the stereotypical boxes and just expressing yourself. So I’m just doing that and using it as an opportunity to kind of showcase my style.

Game style by Sergio Hudson. Yeah, just hanging out here. This is your first Met Gala? First Met Gala. I mean, are you feeling nervous? Are you excited? Are you pumped to find out what happens in there? I was nervous at first, but after we started, you know, trying different fittings and stuff like that, I felt at peace with everything. So, yeah, I’m just embracing everything and enjoying the moment, to be honest with you. Oh, I love this Hello, Councilman, how are you? I’m such a fan of you. You know that you stole the whole season of Severance.

I mean, it is insane. Tell me how you feel tonight being at the Met Gala. I mean, this is my first Met, so it’s a real honor to be here. And I am so glad that I did a good job holding this a secret for the past three months. What was the secret that you were holding in? Well, that I was going, and that I was going with Tom Brown. If you could have five minutes inside with anyone, who would you talk to?

I just saw Whoopi Goldberg, so I’m kind of freaking out. So I think she’s high on the list. And tell me how you’re embracing the theme tonight. Well, I mean, it really is tailored. I mean, this look is completely tailored. The stitch work that went into it is very specific, and really tapping into the roots of my own heritage was really important.

So just being me and showing up and being present, that’s how I’m handling that. Thank you so much. It’s so nice to meet you. Come talk to us, you look so good. I have to say, I read your piece about dandyism. Yes. And I wanted, in your own words, tell me what dandyism means to you. I mean, dandyism is about being true to yourself, true to your sense of storytelling. How do you want to meet the world with a story to let them know just how you’re feeling that day? And today, the story is all about me.

Wait, tell me about this ring right now. So Benjamin Hawkins designed a Faberge egg for me. My outfit was inspired by the present section of the exhibition, which all was in the 19th century. And he thought, what better to do for the 19th century than make.

A Faberge egg with a peach brown diamond as well. Peach brown diamond and hand portrait of myself in enamel. That is amazing. Are you going to be giving your hand up the whole night? Of course, yeah. I want everyone to see it. What’s the one thing you have to bring with you to that gala? What’s the one thing? What’s the one thing?

You look so incredible to me about how you’re embracing the theme in the gala. Tom Brown put this together. I told him whatever he made, I would wear. And look at what he did for me. You know what? I’m always surprised to get invited and thrilled to come. Hi, baby. Thank you.
