San Diego: Southern California Is Being Shaken By A Strong 5.2 Magnitude Earthquake

San Diego earthquake

Southern California is being shaken by a strong 5.2 magnitude earthquake.  San Diego must have been around five points.  causing buildings to shake and people to run for their lives.  This mom is taking her kid out of a playpen. The quake happened just after 10 a.m. in the area.  The impact was close to Julian, California, which is about 40 miles northeast of San Diego.

Officials say there are no reports of deaths yet, but the event is still shocking.  Oh my God.  That was really scary.  The earthquake made this woman hide in her office in downtown San Diego. She told us that it made her remember similar tremors back in Mexico City.

As the schools in Southern California stopped closing today, people were taking stock of what had happened. His team is now figuring out if the emergency reaction is really needed.  Okay, Dana Griffin is now here with us live tonight.

Dana, do you hear anything?  Did you feel anything?  These tremors that can happen right after an earthquake? We haven’t felt any more aftershocks here.  But the San Diego Union-Tribune says there have been four just in the last 90 minutes since that 5.2-magnitude quake.

Also, their sizes ranged from 3.0 to 3.9, which is a good sign that the 5.2-magnitude quake was most likely the main one.  Even the most famous seismologist in Southern California, Dr. Lucy Jones, said there was a 5% chance of a much bigger aftershock.

A lot of people will be able to breathe easier now that they think that was the last quake.  Yes, the hub of the 5.2 quake was in the mountain town of Julian.  Chip Yost from KTLA 5 is live and driving 5 with more chip.  Yeah, hi there, feel free to go. We’re now going to Julian.  We’re in San Diego County on the 78 East.

This is where the earthquake happened in San Diego County.  Let me show you a plan.  The picture shows where Julian is.  Not too far away, in the San Diego County area.  The quake happened at 10:08 this morning and was found to be a 5.2.  Obviously, that’s a pretty good shock the closer you are to it.

Now we’re getting videos of what some people saw there.  Watch this video that we’re about to show you.  This is from the area around Rancho San Diego, which is 33 miles away from Julian. Yeah, that kind of looks like what some people we talked to down in San Diego County said they saw.  One of the people we talked to was our own Jamie Chambers.

5.2 Magnitude Earthquake
Southern California

Remember Jamie Chambers from his time  We heard nothing but rolling, rolling, rolling in my kitchen. The chandeliers started to move around, and the lights were all over the place.  And I’m in Carlsbad, which is close to Camp Pendleton, so we’re used to hearing artillery from there. It started with a boom, and we thought, “Is that normal?”

Then everything started shaking, and it was pretty intense for about four to seven seconds. Then everyone started to react, and everyone started to get to a safe place. But man, that makes you feel alive.  He did feel alive though.

To wake you up, just Louie Glenn, I’ll tell you where I was when the earthquake hit.  Remember the trial of Judge Jeffrey Jefferson? That was the judge in Orange County facing murder charges.  The new trial began today.  The first trial, of course, had no clear winner.   I don’t know how many people felt it all of a sudden.  It hit me.

For me, it was real time.  As we stood in Orange County, it seemed pretty small, and I could feel something shaking.  The judge then said, “I think there’s going to be an earthquake.”  Wait a minute.  Hold on, everyone.  When it looked like everything was over after a minute or two, she asked the judges, “Okay, guys? Are you guys OK?”

Do you want to keep going or do you need a break?  They said they were fine.  That’s why the trial keeps going.  But it was an interesting part of that murder trial. When the judge temporarily stopped the case because of an earthquake.  We’re going to Julian, though.  We’ll be there in about an hour, and when we get there.
